Benefits for the tutors

Ultrasonographers need to have the skills and experience to acquire appropriate images by manipulation of the ultrasound probe, and to recognise and interpret those images to make a diagnosis. Tutors currently have to teach this complex mix of cognitive skills and eye-hand movement coordination, primarily through hands-on training with ultrasound machines and real patients.

This is time intensive for the trainer, requiring prolonged and repeated patient contact in the clinical setting, and reducing their ability to meet the hospitals clinical service delivery targets.

Increasing demand for ultrasound training in such as obstetrics and gynaecology, cardiology, urology and emergency medicine is increasing the pressure on the limited number of qualified trainers to meet these training demands.

ScanTrainer is designed to help relieve this pressure by expediting skills acquisition and increasing trainees’ competency in a self directed learning environment, dramatically reducing the need for expert supervision.

The tutor can monitor a trainee’s progress through the LMS and provide their support as appropriate, depending on the trainees progress.

Training prior to hands-on patient contact through the use of its virtual reality desk-top ultrasound training simulator.

ScanTrainer’s active learning programme is aligned with curriculum-based learning programmes and has the potential to significantly improve a trainees experience and ability prior to patient contact, whilst dramatically reducing the hours of direct supervision from the tutor.
